How do we solve problems with public transport in Ljubljana /Vienna?

 Vienna

  • Vienna´s traffic system is well-regarded for its efficiency and organization. Although being a well oganized city, it of course has multiple traffic issues. We have some solution ideas. Firstly, we could build new underground lines in accessable areas to improve connectivity. Then we can make more frequent services which would reduce waiting times and improve comfort.

  • Another thing is accessibility. In Vienna subways, buses, trams, bicycles and E-scooters are available, but they also need to be accessible for people with mobility impairments to use them daily. On the same page is safety and cleanliness. Regulaur cleaning would positively influence the travel experience.

  • What about pricing? Well, public transport is relatively inexpensive being 1,30-2,50€ per ticket and free for children under the age of six. But considerations for affordable ticket prices, such as discounted monthly passes, could encourage more people to use public transport. Another thing that might help promote public transport are Public Awereness Campaigns. They would raise awereness about the benefits of public transport and its positive environmental impacts could enhance citizen engagement.

  • Through these measures, public transportation in Vienna could be made not only more efficient, but also more affordable and sustainable.                                                                                                                                                                            Ljubljana

  • Ljubljana`s public transport system is good at promoting environmental sustainability through ist use of eco-friendly buses, including electric and hybrid models. Although good at some things, Ljubljana has quite a few transport issues. One of the biggest being traffic congestion. During peak hours, buses get stuck in traffic, leading to delays. Some of the reasons for this include:

  • Limited Road space- narrow streets restrict traffic flow leading to congestion.

  • Parking Issues- a shortage of parking spaces, particularly in busy areas, causes drivers to circle the block looking for spots, contributing to congestion.

  • Here are some solutions: To improve traffic management, smart traffic signals and real time information displays should be added. Also carpooling should be encouraged, promoting ridesharing initatives. To manage parking, fees should be optimized and park-and-ride facilities should be created.

  • Ljubljana uses buses the most, which is great but the absence of a subway or tram system limits ist capacity to allivate road congestion. Also more cycling and walking would help.

  • Ticket prices - Are concidered quite affordable being only 1€ at kiosks and 1.30€ when purchased from the busdriver, and free for children under the age of six.

  • Although quite affordable, a few things could be changed when it comes to the transport itself. The frequency of buses could be boosted particularly during peak hours. Public campaigns promoting the benefits of public transport would also be useful.

  • By addressing these areas, Ljubljana can create a more efficient, sustainable, and user-friendly public transport system.
